Television

Deepak Thimaya is a well-known television personality with almost two decades of experience in the medium. Starting his association with TV in 1993 as an actor in Kannada tele-serials, he moved on to become a presenter, anchor, host, quizmaster, and now, an established and respected interviewer on television.

His 'Jedara Balé', the only political interview on Udaya TV, is a very popular program in which he has questioned every important politician and public personality associated with the state of Karnataka. This has attracted a lot of critical acclaim for Thimaya’s unique interviewing style and skills.

His English talk show Time to Talk on Udaya News Channel is recognized as the only mainstream English interview across bands on TV in South India. Time to Talk has been successfully running for more than five years and Thimaya has had hundreds of guests baring their hearts and recounting their successes, on the show. He has interviewed personalities from various streams of public life, like national politicians and opinion leaders, to scientists, religious leaders celebrities and hundreds of others from hundreds of different areas of specialization.

Thimaya has taken a break from his regular shows, Jedara Bale and Time to Talk and has embarked on a different mission. His interest now is to do educative shows for the public in general. The first of its kind on TV in Karnataka, Gupta Loka, a late night show on sexual health, ably hosted by him completed over hundred successful episodes. Thimaya is currently hosting a live interactive show on current affairs on Udaya News channel, in Kannada, which is telecast every weeknight.

He is the concept creator and director of Sanjeevini, the longest running and the only health show on Udaya TV. Thimaya has also hosted numerous PR shows in the program titled REACHOUT, produced by T V House.

As a script writer and voiceover he has been involved in the making of hundreds of informational documentary films.

He was also the quiz master in the first ever quiz show on Udaya TV called Explore, which was also produced and directed by him. His quizzing talents were put to use on Udaya TV with his conducting over hundred episodes of live quiz of one hour each, for a show calledcalled Quiz Time on Udaya TV. He was an anchor for one season of the quiz-based game show, Master Genius of Karnataka.

His interest in issues related to health care has motivated him to get involved in producing many educational programs and initiating many awareness activities related to health. He has interviewed many prominent doctors, written articles about health issues and taking it further now has established a portal about health – www.masterinhealth.com of which he is the Editor-in-chief.

Filmmaking

An ambitious documentary film about the learned and legendary seer of Sri Siddaganga Mutt, Sri Sri Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji was directed by him and telecast resulting in much praise and acclaim. Currently he is working on three more bio pics. He has also worked as the creative director for a few musical projects. He is working on the script for an Indian English film he plans to direct in the near future.

Field of Education

Deepak Thimaya is also well-known in the area of teacher education and has made a name for himself as an educationist. He has established a unique school Prathama, in Bangalore, where the emphasis is on imparting the basics of knowledge in the process of education.

Journalism – Print

Thimaya has worked as a columnist for Mid-day Bangalore, and as an interview-columnist with Vijaya Karnataka, the largest Kannada daily with the popular ‘Nera-nera’. He has written serious articles for Agni, an English tabloid, on various issues attracting critical acclaim. His articles on mind and behaviour in popular Kannada daily newspaper Prajavani has generated a fan following. He functioned, in a brief stint, as the first editor of the first weekly broad sheet newsmagazine in Kannada, Vijaya Next, brought out by the TOI Group.

Radio

Thimaya was engaged as a cricket analyst by SFM 93.5 FM station, in a show called Cricket Guru during the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Theatre

He is a rare personality who has dabbled in almost every stream of mass media including radio and films. Having started his creative life as a stage actor, his irrepressible interest in theatre and acting prompted him to start The Academy for Child Theatre (The ACT), in 1992. Through the ACT, he has trained over five thousand children in acting and direction. He was the first to start theatre in education in Bangalore schools. He conducted workshops for school teachers in theatre in class room and therapeutic theatre.

Deepak Thimaya is a recognized name in the field of communication with his belief that good communication is the breath of a healthy democracy. He has been inspiring and training youngsters and other interested groups to become better communicators. In this regard, he has been associated with numerous institutions and organizations.

Entrepreneurship

In the world of business too, Thimaya has played a part. He has been actively associated in business activities and also runs his own business enterprise. Deepak Thimaya, is the Managing Director of T V House Network (Bangalore) Pvt. Ltd., a well known media company.

Verbattle, projected and promoted as the biggest intellectual platform for school children and college youth, is the biggest debate tournament in India. Verbattle Club is the largest children's association is Karnataka.

Verbattle aims at nurturing values of democracy and civic society and motivating children and youth to participate in the opinion-making process and develop into leaders. Verbattle is Thimaya's pet concept and as its founder he expects Verbattle to reach the hearts and minds of every thinking and feeling individual, young and old alike.

Motivational and Topical Speaker

As a well known speaker with knowledge of many fields Thimaya has been invited to various prestigious forums to address the gathering on topical issues. He was a speaker in Kannada Sahitya Sammelana 2008 and Alva’s Nudisiri 2008 to mention a prominent few such occasions. He has moderated numerous panel discussions on various topics ranging from traffic problems, Right To Information to good governance.

Deepak Thimaya has received widespread recognition and respect for his work in various fields. Dr. U.R. Anathamurthy, renowned litterateur and Jnanpith Awardee has called him ‘the best on TV in English and in Kannada.

Thimaya is also a painter whose paintings have been displayed and sold in exhibitions and galleries.

Early days

Deepak was born on the 17th of March, in Siddapura of Kodagu district in Karnataka State. He did his schooling in Kodagu, in English medium convent schools and graduated from Mysore.

Present and Future

He has a great interest in human behaviour and is in the process of writing a book about the same in the light of his experience in mass response to TV shows. He is also an active blogger and is compiling his blogs with the aim of bringing out a book. He is also working on two mega projects each for TV and cinema.

Deepak Thimaya's journey has been continuous and now he expects to only gain more speed, as his dreams are many and his vision is clear.
